It was great for PP to be back on Share Radio talking Live with our very own plumber Jess and also chimney sweep Jessica, member of women on the tools.
They we were discussing the number of women in manual trades with present Georgie Frost. As said on the show, there is so much demand out there for women in the industry but unfortunately they only make up 2%. As a very proud of Women on the Tools, this is something we’re tackling and campaigning to change – ‘making tradeswomen the norm, not the exception’.
We have never experienced any difference in the work of men or women and there’s absolutely no reason why, in the near future, we can’t get the number of tradeswomen in the industry up to 50%. It has been a very male dominated industry but its changing and I believe one way of encouraging more young women is to introduce those already in the trade as role models early on.
Perfect examples are both Jess, who works here at PP, and Jessica, a member of Women on the Tools. Jess had it spot on talking about the misconceptions of female tradespersons, and instead encouraging young girls to just give it a go.
